01Introduction
M1 Insights Inc ("we," "our," or "us"), the developer of Sera, is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application ("App"). By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
02Information We Collect
User Progress Data: We store your learning progress locally on your device, including completed learning moments, saved content, and quiz responses and accuracy. Location Data: With your permission, we collect your device's location to provide personalized sky conditions and lunar timing, display location-specific astronomical events, and customize weather and cloud cover information. You can disable location services at any time through your device settings. The App will continue to function with reduced personalization. Device Data: We collect minimal device information necessary to provide the service, including device type and operating system version (for compatibility). We also receive astronomical data from NASA APIs (Hubble images, Astronomy Picture of the Day), weather services (cloud cover data), and astronomical databases (moon phases, eclipse events).
03How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to: (a) provide, maintain, and improve the App; (b) personalize your experience with location-based content; (c) track your learning progress across sessions; (d) send you relevant notifications (with your consent); (e) analyze usage patterns to improve our content; (f) respond to your inquiries and support requests; (g) comply with legal obligations.
04Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely using industry-standard practices: anonymous session tokens are stored on Supabase with encryption at rest, no passwords are collected — authentication is anonymous, data transmission uses HTTPS/TLS encryption with certificate pinning, and we retain your data only as long as necessary to provide our services. We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures including encryption of data in transit and at rest, regular security assessments, access controls and authentication, and secure development practices. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
05Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with service providers that help us operate the App: Supabase (authentication and database), Render (backend hosting), and NASA (astronomical data APIs). We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, privacy, safety, or property.
06Data Retention
We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, including: session data retained while your anonymous session is active, learning progress stored locally on your device, and location data cached locally for up to 24 hours and not transmitted to our servers beyond API requests.
07Your Rights & Choices
You have the right to: (a) access — request a copy of your personal data; (b) correction — update or correct inaccurate information; (c) deletion — request deletion of your account and associated data; (d) location — enable or disable location services at any time; (e) notifications — manage notification preferences in the App. You may withdraw your consent at any time by disabling location services in your device settings, deleting your account, or contacting us at info@m1labs.io. Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before withdrawal.
08Canadian Privacy Rights
As a Canadian company, we comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). You have the right to access your personal information held by us, challenge the accuracy and completeness of your information, request correction of inaccurate information, and withdraw consent (subject to legal or contractual restrictions).
09California & European Privacy Rights
California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used, and the right to request deletion. If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to access, rectify, port, and erase your data, and the right to restrict or object to processing.
10Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us immediately.
11Analytics & Do Not Track
The App does not currently use third-party analytics or crash reporting SDKs. If we add analytics in the future, we will update this policy and request consent where required. The App does not respond to "Do Not Track" signals; however, you can control data collection through your device settings.
12Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy in the App and updating the "Last Updated" date.
